Phosphoryl-containing acidic podands as extractants for recovery of f-elements 3. Dependence of the degree of association of podands on the nature of substituent and concentration in water–methanol solutions

The degree of association of phosphoryl-containing acidic podands 2-[(HO)(RO)(O)P]-4R´-C 6 H 4 -(OCH 2 CH 2 ) 2 -OC 6 H 4 -4-R´-2-[P(O)(OR)(OH)], where R = Et, R´ = H ( 1 ); R = Bu, R´ = Et ( 2 ) was determined by the diffusion method in 1,2-dichloroethane, 1,2-dichloroethane saturated with water, a...

Summary:The degree of association of phosphoryl-containing acidic podands 2-[(HO)(RO)(O)P]-4R´-C 6 H 4 -(OCH 2 CH 2 ) 2 -OC 6 H 4 -4-R´-2-[P(O)(OR)(OH)], where R = Et, R´ = H ( 1 ); R = Bu, R´ = Et ( 2 ) was determined by the diffusion method in 1,2-dichloroethane, 1,2-dichloroethane saturated with water, and water–methanol (1: 7 vol/vol) solutions. Under the same experimental conditions (25 ΰC, 0.01 M solutions in aqueous methanol), podand 1 exists as trimers ( n = 3), whereas podand 2 forms associates consisting of about 30 particles. Unlike podand 1 , the degree of association of podand 2 depends on the solute concentration. According to the IR spectral data for 1,2-dichloroethane solutions, associates of both podands are formed due to strong hydrogen bonds involving P(O)OH groups.
