Summary:Recent 17O and 33S NMR measurements for gaseous compounds permit establishment of more reliable shielding scales for both the magnetic nuclei. The new experimental results may be directly used for better verification of ab initio calculations of shielding. It is also shown that intermolecular effects are rather large in the oxygen shielding of small molecules. In contrast the 33S magnetic shielding of an octahedral SF 6 molecule is modestly dependent on intermolecular interactions.
