Summary: | Image sensing technology has recently been demonstrated to be a cost-effective tool in detecting traffic parameters. Various operational tests have demonstrated imaging sensors as practical alternatives to conventional sensors for signalized intersection control and incident detection. Network-wide, intelligent traffic management, however, requires advanced measurements to extract additional traffic parameters for freeway and ramp control, to manage traffic on priority corridors, to control traffic in interconnected urban street networks, and to optimize the total network traffic flow involving freeways, priority corridors, and signalized intersections. The Federal Highway administration recently funded Image Sensing Systems, Inc. for extending its video sensor technology to provide more traffic information. |
