Spore discharge rhythms in pyrenomycetes

Sordaria macrospora discharged spores over the temperature range 5–30 °G. Total spore discharge was greater at 30° than at 15°, but a drop in temperature from 15 to 5° resulted in a marked increase during the first 4 days, followed by an even more marked decrease in the rate of spore discharge. Summary:Sordaria macrospora discharged spores over the temperature range 5–30 °G. Total spore discharge was greater at 30° than at 15°, but a drop in temperature from 15 to 5° resulted in a marked increase during the first 4 days, followed by an even more marked decrease in the rate of spore discharge. The average distance of spore discharge varied between 121 and 133 mm over the temperature range 15–36°, the maximum discharge distance being recorded at 25°.
