Spectroscopic properties and crystal structure of an oxovanadium(V) alkoxo complex with the ligand: 5-chloro- o-hydroxyacetophenone-salicyhydrazide

The preparation and characterization by means of IR and electronic spectroscopies, magnetic measurements and molecular structure by X-ray diffraction of a single-crystal are reported for a monomeric oxovanadium(V) complex: [V vO(5Cl-OHA-SHZ)(OCH 2CH 3)], where (5Cl-OHA-SHZ) is the dianionic tridenta...

Summary:The preparation and characterization by means of IR and electronic spectroscopies, magnetic measurements and molecular structure by X-ray diffraction of a single-crystal are reported for a monomeric oxovanadium(V) complex: [V vO(5Cl-OHA-SHZ)(OCH 2CH 3)], where (5Cl-OHA-SHZ) is the dianionic tridentate ONO donor ligand 5-chloro- o-hydroxyacetophenone-salicylhydrazide. The vanadium atom is essentially five coordinate. Three ONO donor atoms of the (5Cl-OHA-SHZ) ligand and an oxygen atom from an alkoxide group form a distorted square-pyramidal geometry around the metal center. The basal coordination plane is formed by three donor atoms ONO (a phenolic oxygen, an imine nitrogen and an enolic oxygen) from the ligand and an oxygen atom from the alkoxide group. This structure is compared with the corresponding copper (II) complex with the same ligand.
