Summary: | The electron and excitation exchange reaction Ar∗(3P)+He+(2S)→Ar+(2P)+He∗(21,3S) has been observed in a preliminary crossed beam experiment, at a collision energy of ∼10eV. The dynamics of this process has been investigated theoretically by evaluating the diabatic potential energy curves and the relevant couplings. Transition probabilities have been calculated through the Landau–Zener–Stückelberg formula, and state-to-state cross-sections have been finally obtained. Some clues on the nature of the interaction between the reacting partners have been drawn and generalized to similar systems. |
