Summary:This paper describes clinical intoxication in horses, donkeys, cattle and sheep in Paraíba, northeastern Brazil between 1996-1999. Seed and whole plant samples contained 0.3-0.5% monocrotaline. Severe outbreaks were observed in the dry period of 1997, suggesting that the shortage of forage is an important condition for the occurrence of the disease.
