Summary:For the determination of the rest mass of νe we have rebuilt our ironfree β ray spectrometer. We have calibrated it with an electron gun with linear emitting filament. Also we have made use of 170Tm for the same purpose. Besides determining the best shape of the exit aperture and the constant of the spectrometer, we have obtained resolution curves. The energy resolution near the end point of the β ray spectrum of 3H is found to be about 20 eV. Tritium gas has been adsorbed on and absorbed in Ti films on top of copper strips with and without cooling devices. We shall use them as radioactive sources in the spectrometer. We use a thin window G-M counter as the detector in the spectrometer.
