Summary:Rectus sheath hematoma is relatively rare, and should be included in the differential diagnosis of patients with acute abdominal pain and abdominal mass. We describe a patient with rectus sheath hematoma caused by coughing. A 77-year-old man was admitted with abdominal pain and mass. 10 days before admission, he presented with intense coughing and sputum due to bronchitis, followed by fever and sharp abdominal pain two days later. Ultrasonography and CT scan revealed a hematoma inside the right upper rectus sheath. The patient responded to conservative therapy. The hematoma almost disappeared in the course of three months.
