Summary:Preparation of 123I from the 127I( p, 5n 123Xe reaction at the Grenoble cyclotron and medical use at the Nuclear Medicine Centre in Lyons has already been described. (5,6) Here we deal with the improvement of the Xe recuperation yield leading to the development of a continuous gas flow system using liquid iodine and isolating 123Xe during the bombardment. We show that 123I yield can be enhanced and the whole system automatized, reducing the irradiation hazards to personnel. The system developed so far must be regarded as a prototype open to improvement.
