The Role of Victimization versus Survivorship for Victims of Domestic Abuse: How to Use Personal and Community Resources to Move from Victimization to Survivorship

Domestic violence affects all aspects of society, and causes permanent damage to victims, children, families, and the community. Oftentimes, domestic violence victims do not understand the resources that are available to them both personally and in the community to assist them in moving from victimization to survivorship. Furthermore, sometimes, the victim of domestic violence knows of the resources, but does not understand how to implement the resources. The purpose of this paper is to educate victims of domestic violence, their community, and those who help them as to the availability of resources, and the utilization of resources so that the victim can move from victimization to survivorship. The method used is through case studies involving a variety of domestic violence victims, from victims subject to verbal/emotional abuse, physical abuse to strangulation. The implications of this work is create a sustainable society in which domestic violence victims utilize resources to move from victimization to survivorship.
