Summary:This paper presents an improved method of manufacturing automation and prototyping for Printed Wiring Boards. The protocol requires that three data sources be present [circuit specifications, component specifications, and a circuit layout database], in computer interpretable form. The specifications for these three data stores is presented and a generic workcell, suitable for low volume high part mix prototyping is discussed. In order for the protocol to control the generic workcell, the subtask orders which are required for proper function are also presented and discussed.
