Summary:Qualified registered dietitians (RDs) currently may write therapeutic diet orders, acting within their facility-granted privileges and within their scope of practice, in accordance with hospital policies and state laws. RDs must know and understand the federal and state laws relevant to their healthcare facility, how the facility's policies and procedures are implemented to ensure regulatory compliance and safe and quality patient care. In addition, RDs must be able to document their own scope of practice.
