Summary:Heptacoordinated metal complexes with a pentadentate ligand 2,6-diacetylpyridine-bis(thiosemicarbazone) (H 2 daptsc) were used for the first time ever as building blocks to create polynuclear multifunctional molecular materials. Reactions of the paramagnetic [Mn( ii )(H 2 daptsc)(H 2 O) 2 ](ClO 4 ) 2 and [Mn( ii )(H 2 daptsc)Cl 2 ] complexes with photochromic sodium nitroprusside Na 2 [Fe( ii )(CN) 5 NO] . 2H 2 O were studied. As a result, six polynuclear phases were obtained: {Mn(H 2 daptsc)Fe(CN) 5 NO} n ·0.5 n (MeOH)·0.5 n (H 2 O) ( 1 ), {Mn(H 2 daptsc)Fe(CN) 5 NO} 3n ·8 n (MeOH) ( 2 ), {Mn(H 2 daptsc)Fe(CN) 5 NO} 2n · n (MeOH)· n (H 2 O) ( 3 ), [Mn(H 2 daptsc)Cl] 2 [Fe(CN) 5 NO] ( 4 ), {Mn(H 2 daptsc)Fe(CN) 5 NO} n ·2 n (H 2 O) ( 5 ) and {Mn(H 2 daptsc)Fe(CN) 5 NO} n · n (EtOH) ( 6 ). The crystal structures of the phases as well as the magnetic and photochromic properties of 1 and 4 were studied.
