Summary:International Political Sociology (IPS) emphasizes the need to bring a sociological perspective to the study of worlds politics. It enjoys an almost organic relationship with security studies. IPS broadens the ontology of security by defining it in terms of routine bureaucratic practices. Scholars of IPS also show a significant interest in migration management and border security practices. This article argues that most IPS studies tend to overlook the dynamic character of the field of border in/security by focusing extensively on the current sociology of border in/security fields. The situation indicated by this claim may also cause incompatibility with Political Sociology's commitment to a social and relational ontological stance. Accordingly, this article asks, “How has Turkey’s migration management and border in/security field transformed since the establishment of the Republic?” The article has two main contributions. Theoretically, it contributes to the literature on IPS by underlining the dynamic character of ‘fields.’ Empirically, it presents a historical periodization of Turkey’s migration and border policies and practices.
