Summary: | The patient was a 7-year-old girl, in whom a left breast mass, 4.0 × 3.0 cm in size, elastic hard with relatively clear margins and smooth surface, was first noticed at the CE region 3 months ago. Superficial lymph nodes were not palpable. Mammography was not performed because of her young age. On ultrasound exams, the mass bore a round shape, with slightly irregular margins, and its internal echoes were relatively uniform. With a subjunctive diagnosis of fibroadenoma, the patient was closely followed up for the breast mass. As there was no change in the size of the mass in six months, tumor resection was performed under general anesthesia at her family's request. The resected mass was encapsulated by thin film, and the cut-surface exhibited gray off-white medullary parenchyma with coarse nodular growth pattern. Histological examination revealed a tumor showing papillary proliferation into the dilated tubular lumens of the breast tissues. At the papillary proliferation the spindle tumor cells were arranged in two layers of cuboidal or cylindrical cells, and the stroma consisted of fibrous connective tissue containing capillaries. No atypia was observed, and the myoepithelial cells were positive in immunohistochemical staining with α-SMA. The final histopathological diagnosis was intraductal papilloma. For about 10 years after surgery, no clinical recurrence has since been observed. |
