Summary:In this study, different methods for partial discharge (PD) diagnostics on medium-voltage switchgears are presented and compared with each other. For this purpose, measurements are performed in the laboratory on a full scaled test bed using three 24 kV/1250 A medium-voltage switchgears (SG). As measurement methods, PD measurement with high frequency current transformer (HFCT), PD-coupling via high voltage (HV) side capacitance for voltage measurement inside the SG, an acoustic camera and an optical camera are compared with the measurement method according to IEC 60270. It is demonstrated that PDs can be reliably detected under laboratory conditions with all investigated methods.
