Summary: | Catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) rates in our facility were higher than the published national average. A reduction project was initiated, piloted on one unit and then diffused house-wide. Data in 2015 show that CAUTI was eliminated on our pilot unit and a 68% rate reduction occurred hospital-wide. However, concurrently, the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) surveillance definitions changed. In order to assess project impact, we analyzed the 2014 and 2015 CAUTI cases using both definitions. |
