Summary: | Previous research suggests that the prevalence of mental health crises is high among youth with ASD. Therefore, it is critical to understand whether child and adolescent psychiatrists are equipped to manage these challenging behaviors in their outpatient practice. To date, no study has examined child psychiatrists’ management of mental health crises among youth with ASD. The objectives of this study are as follows: 1) to present data on how child and adolescent psychiatrists manage mental health crises in youth with ASD in their outpatient practice; and 2) to discuss current strategies for preventing and managing mental health crises in this population. |
