Summary: | Introduction: Chronic pancreatitis is a multifactorial disease in which fibrotic and inflammatory changes are evidenced in the pancreas. its annual incidence is between 5 - 14 / 100,000 and its appearance is associated directly with pancreas divisum. the most common cause shows variation based on culture and geographical location. abdominal pain is the most common symptom occurring in up to 80% of the patients. pain in chronic pancreatitis patients is difficult to manage and often requires a multidisciplinary and multimodality approach. Results: A 14-year-old patient presents with abdominal epigastric pain that goes to the lumbar region, which started one week ago, associated with emetic episodes. elevation of amylases and transaminases is documented. there is a previous personal history of two episodes of pancreatitis in the last year. a magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography and a biliopancreatic ultrasonography are performed, documenting severe dilatation main pancreatic duct, multiple images that suggested intraductal stones and an obstructive image distal in the main pancreatic duct. in addition, it shows another duct that is separated from the main duct and located on the pancreas head, corresponding to pancreas divisum. |
