Summary: | Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH), also referred to as Histiocytosis X represents clonal proliferations of the antigen-presenting dendritic cells, which are normally found in many organs. LCH is a rare disease that tends to affect children and adolescents. In particular, adult onset LCH is even very rare. LCH has clinical manifestations depending on the site of infiltration. We present a case report of an adult, female patient, diagnosed with LCH of the rib, without any systemic involvement. It was surprising that the pathology of partial rib resection of the patient who came with only pain symptoms resulted in langerhans cell histiocytosis. An unusual location and presentation of an adult patient with LCH of rib and was treated successfully with surgery. |
