Summary:The slurry trench cut-off wall method is applied in the world where there is a thick permeable geological formation under the surface dam. This method has been successfully applied in Türkiye against water leaks under the dam body or under the cofferdam. Application of the method in underground dams is not yet common in the world and Türkiye. The method has started to be applied within the action plan named “Underground Dam Action Plan.” Bahçecik (Bartın), Hanönü (Kastamonu), and Suludere (İzmir) are the underground dams where the method was first applied. In these examples, the maximum wall depth exceeds 30 m and reaches 200 m wide. In the first two examples mentioned above, water is obtained by gravity, and in the last, water is obtained by pumping from the wells. In addition to the above, new projects such as Çenger (Antalya) are also candidates for construction. It is hoped that the experiences in the implementation of the method would be beneficial for future projects.
