Summary:In this paper, a half bridge single-input multi-output (SIMO) DC-DC converter, to supply light emitting diode (LED), is proposed. The proposed DC-DC converter provides the ability to individually control the brightness of each output channel. In order to control the output power of each channel, a burst control mode is employed resulting in reduction of conduction losses and improving efficiency. Moreover, the half bridge switches are turned on/off at zero voltage with a fixed switching frequency; therefore, the switching losses is reduced and efficiency is further increased. In addition, due to the fixed switching frequency, the converter will not have the problems of variable frequency. The proposed converter works safely in both short-circuit cases and open-circuit conditions thanks to series resonant circuit specifications. Design and implementation have been simplified by choosing the same structure for outputs. A two-channel laboratory prototype is built and tested to verify the theoretical analyses.
