Summary:Large scale studies like the ones on Universal or World History have got a special role and importance in the Ottoman Historiography. World Chronicles written under the names such as Tarih-i Umumi "General History" or some others, evaluating the Ottoman Empire with an integrated approach, let us compare and contrast the Empire with the other countries or societies. The traces of how these countries and people are seen and analyzed by the Ottomans and, how and where the Ottomans are located among this environment can also be followed in these works. In this respect, Tarih-Umumi "General History" of Mizancı Mehmed Murad provides a great opportunity and is a good example for the evaluation of Ottoman World Historiography in the 19th century. On the other hand, in an era that nationalist ideologies and practices gathered pace, Mizancı Mehmed Murad's universal approach is also worth examining
