Summary:The present analysis, largely guided by the Triple Helix Model, situates entrepreneurial capacity in Nigeria within the relational university - industry - government system, rather than examining an isolated contribution of each element to the entrepreneurial eco-system. The empirical context focuses on entrepreneurial performance through evidence of low business survival and unemployment statistics. The goals were twofold: first, we adapted the Triple Helix model to the Nigeria context; and subsequently, we derived evidence through the role of higher education to situate poor assessment of entrepreneurial competence as the main driver of poor entrepreneurial performance. The study therefore draws an assessment framework to bridge entrepreneurial education and performance in the light of the government policies intended to ignite innovation for national development.
