Summary:Introduction/BackgroundOvarian cancer was the third most common gynaecology cancer in women, where the most cases found were epithelial type ovarian cancer. Based on histopathology, epithelial-type ovarian cancer was divided into type 1 and type 2, with the High grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) been the dominant subtype and accounted for the highest mortality rate of all types of ovarian epithelial cancer. Due to the high mortality rate and the absence of screened guidelines for ovarian epithelial cancer, knowledge of the risk factors for ovarian cancer was needed as a first step for early detection of ovarian cancer. Age and menopausal status were examples of risk factors that can cause ovarian epithelial cancer. This study aimed to determine the relationship between age and menopausal status with the incidence of epithelial ovarian cancer, subtype of high-grade serous carcinoma, at Dr M. Djamil General Hospital, Padang.MethodologyThis research was a cross sectional observational analytic study conducted in the based on medical records at Dr M. Djamil General Hospital of Padang. The subjects included in this study were 90 ovarian epithelial cancer patients. Data analysis was performed using the Chi square test.ResultsIn this study, it was found that ovarian epithelial cancers subtype high grade serous carcinoma was found mostly in women aged > 50 years (54,4%) and who had experienced menopause (56,3%). In the analytic test, the p value for age and menopausal status was 0.382 and 0.104.ConclusionConcluded in this study there is no relationship between age and menopausal status with the incidence of epithelial ovarian cancer, subtype high grade serous carcinoma, at Dr M.
