Summary: | Correspondence to Mr Ramkumar Mohan, Department of General Surgery, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore, Singapore; m.ramkumar@u.nus.edu Case presentation A 71-year-old man presented with fever and right hypochondrium colicky pain. Serum biochemistry revealed elevated alkaline phosphatase and gamma-glutamyl transferase, bilirubin and CA19-9 (52 units/mL). With recent studies showing that porcelain gallbladder is not associated with gallbladder cancer, it may be prudent to consider other differentials for such findings before offering management, especially in older populations where prophylactic resection may not be needed.4 5 Since our patient was symptomatic, we believe that our surgical management of this patient was appropriate. |
