Summary:Meister discusses the text and meter of Sapph. fr. 108 V. Sapph. fr. 108 is reconstructed from what appears to be a paraphrase in Himcrius' wedding speech for Severus. A central difficulty of the fragment concerns the metrical interpretation and the consequences that it has on the constitution of the text. Based perhaps on an adaptation of the fragment in Theocritus' hexametric epithalamium for Menclaus and Helen, the majority of scholars assume dactylic movement, found also in the epithalamic fragments 105a, 105b, 106, and perhaps 107 and 109.
