Undifferentiated Carcinoma of the Jejunum Diagnosed by Single Balloon Enteroscopy: A Case Report

For a long time, the small intestine could not be approached using endoscopic examinations. The development of capsule endoscopy, double balloon enteroscopy and single balloon enteroscopy have made endoscopic examination of the entire small bowel practical. A 68-year-old male patient presented with tarry stool and weakness for one week. Abdominal CT revealed multiple intra-abdominal metastatic tumors. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy did not disclose any lesions. We used the recently developed single balloon enteroscope for examination of the small intestine and a jejunal tumor was found that situated 110cm beyond the ligament of Treitz. The pathological diagnosis was a rare undifferentiated carcinoma.
長期以來小腸無法以內視鏡方式進行檢查，近來發展的膠囊內視鏡、雙氣囊小腸鏡及單氣囊小腸鏡使小腸以內視鏡檢查變成可行。一位68歲男性因解黑便及乏力已一周，腹部電腦斷層顯示腹腔內多處轉移性腫瘤，胃鏡及大腸鏡無發現異常病灶。病人後來接受新近發展之單氣囊小腸鏡證實是距離Treitz韌帶110公分處之空腸腫瘤，病理診斷為罕見之未分化癌
