Summary:The Échelle de comportements d'adaptation Loranger-Pépin (ÉCA-LP 1993) is designed to evaluate the general functionning of adults with mental retardation. By assessing multiple adaptive abilities, ÉCA-LP makes it possible to obtain simultaneously a measure of behavioral functionning and an intelligence level. Three studies examined the psychometric properties of the ÉCA-LP. Validity and reliability were assessed with different samples of persons with mental retardation. First study based on 30 subjects gives internal consistency (α = .95), test-retest indice (median = .90), and validity related to a criterion (r = .94 with IQ). Second study with 122 subjects was designed to establish the ÉCA-LP's discriminant validity. Principal discriminant fonction explains 83% of variance. Last study confirms internal consistency, construct validity, validity related to a criterion (to 17 cognitive tasks) and discriminant validity with 147 subjects. Results of these studies demonstrate reliability and variability indices which stand consistently beyond the expected limits, demonstrating the good psychometric properties of the ÉCA-LP.
