Summary:Contaminant levels in surface sediment of the Nevion Estuary of northern Spain are reported. The mid-estuary was heavily contaminated by arsenic, cadmium, chromium, copper, and mercury derived from industrial sources. Sediments in this regionw ere also enriched in organochlorine pesticides, PCBs, and PAHs. Highest levels of organic matter were found in sediments of the Galindo River and adjacent areas of deposition and are ascribed to agricultural sources.
