Further evidence of hemispheric differences in the MLT mean wind climatology: Simultaneous MF radar observations at Poker Flat (65°N, 147°W) and Davis (69°S, 78°E)
Results of a comparative study of the wind fields in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere over Poker Flat (65°N, 147°W) and Davis (69°S, 78°E) are presented. The study utilized the MF radar wind data collected simultaneously during the period 1999–2000. Mean winds during this period are examined to...

Summary: | Results of a comparative study of the wind fields in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere over Poker Flat (65°N, 147°W) and Davis (69°S, 78°E) are presented. The study utilized the MF radar wind data collected simultaneously during the period 1999–2000. Mean winds during this period are examined to study the hemispheric features. Emphasis has been given to the climatological variations over these two high‐latitude stations. The results suggest large hemispheric differences in the mean circulation. Further, the observed mean wind characteristics are compared with results obtained from other high‐latitude stations. |
