Summary: | Two rivers in Calamba [Laguna, Philippines] namely, San Juan and San Cristobal, were studied from May 1987 to April 1990. Regular monthly sampling was conducted. Parameters such as pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, total solids, total suspended solids, chemical oxygen demand, hardness, chloride, turbidity, phosphorus fractions, and nitrogen fractions were used to evaluate the water quality of the rivers before they discharge to Laguna de Bay. The results showed that runoff from agricultural watersheds contribute to the rise in P fractions, N fractions, and total suspended solids. The presence of effluents from the industries along both rivers as well as domestic sewage also significantly contribute to the deterioration of the water quality of the rivers |
