Summary:A study investigated the age and genesis of igneous rocks in the Kolyuchinskaya Guba in eastern Chukotka. It may be suggested that extension, which encompassed vast areas in marginal parts of the Siberian and North American continents, should be regarded as the initial stage of the continental crust destruction that preceded and predetermined the origin of the Eurasian basin of the Arctic Ocean.
