Lower Barremian ammonite biostratigraphy in the Subbetic Domain (Betic Cordillera, southern Spain)

An ammonite zonation for the Lower Barremian and lowermost Upper Barremian in the pelagic Subbetic Domain (Betic Cordillera, southern Spain) is presented in this paper. Summary:An ammonite zonation for the Lower Barremian and lowermost Upper Barremian in the pelagic Subbetic Domain (Betic Cordillera, southern Spain) is presented in this paper. Most of the zones used in the standard scale for the Mediterranean Region (Hoedemaeker et al., 1993) are retained; only the H. caillaudianus Zone has been rejected and replaced by the S. compressissima and M. moutonianum Zones. All the biostratigraphic units are, for the first time, formally defined and characterized. Correlations with the standard zonation and other scales proposed for this interval in the Mediterranean Region are discussed.
