Summary: | The view of Dr Breen and Dr Blume that access to longitudinal primary care constitutes the foundation of an effective health care system and that DPC may contribute to that foundation. However, despite its potential, evidence is lacking. Blume raises the possibility that DPC may excel in patient and population health compared with traditional models of primary care. The enrollment costs associated with DPC may constitute a barrier for underserved persons. The DPC community should compare the demographic profile of its enrollees with that of more conventional primary care practices. |
