Summary:A study assessed changes in body weight (BW), body fat (BF) (skinfolds), and serum hormones in 19 amateur male wrestlers (18 college and 1 highschool) during and 2 months after the wrestling season. The results showed a decrease in BW, BF, and serum testosterone and prolactin during the season, and an association of low testosterone with low BF and with significant BF and BW losses. It is concluded that weight loss dietary restriction in wrestlers may adversely reduce serum testosterone.(wz)
