Summary:Recognizing the importance of materials for high-temperature materials and in response to the technical need for a state-of-the-art review of this subject, ASM International offers the ASM Specialty Handbook: Heat-Resistant Materials. The sixth in the ASM Specialty Handbook series, the present volume is divided into five major sections. The introductory section describes the principles associated with elevated-temperature mechanical and corrosion behavior and compares and contrasts the elevated-temperature characteristics of a wide range of engineering materials. The second section examines the properties of ferrous alloys, including high-alloy cast irons, plain carbon and low-alloy steels, and stainless steels. Alloy development and elevated-temperature performance of the metallurgically complex superalloys are reviewed in the third section. Wrought, powder metallurgy, and cast nickel-, cobalt-, and iron-base superalloys are discussed in detail, and newly developed, directionally solidified and single-crystal alloys and protective coatings are also described. The fourth section reviews nonferrous materials, including titanium alloys, refractory metal alloys, structural intermetallics, ceramics, and carbon-carbon composites. The final section, Special Topics, explores the complex interaction of various high-temperature phenomena and discusses design considerations for high-temperature applications.
