Summary:The hedenbergite-ferrosilite series m ay be taken as representative in some respects of other sections across the common pyroxene quadrilateral. Data are reported for eight clinopyroxenes synthesized at a temperature above the augite-pigeonite solvus, plus two orthopyroxenes near ferrosilite in composition. Clinopyroxenes less calcic than about Fs80Wo20 were found to have the pigeonite structure (P21/c) on quenching.
