Summary:Methods of determining the amount of an analyte in a mixture of analytes are provided. The methods involve contacting a sample of analytes that is labeled with two or more distinguishably detectable labels with a probe for the analyte, and determining the amounts of the two or more distinguishably detectable labels bound with the probe. In certain embodiments, the methods include averaging the amounts of the two or more labels in order to determine the amount of analyte in the sample. Kits are provided for performing the invention. The subject invention finds use in a variety of different applications, including gene expression analysis, DNA sequencing, mutation detection and other genomics and proteomics applications.
