Ownership Changes Worsen Trailer Park Problems, Say Athens, Ga.- Area Officials

[Danny Horne] bought the park in 2001 from Daniel Gonzalez. Gonzalez was cited twice in that year by the Athens-Clarke Marshal's Office and fined $1,000 for multiple building code violations, including septic problems and missing or broken steps and porches. Beacon Pointe's current owners, David Dover and Ben Bagwell, attorneys from Gainesville, have been cited twice in the past two years and fined $500 for problems such as septic failures, missing steps and porches, missing underpinning and exposed electrical conductors, according to Municipal Court records. Neither Dover nor Bagwell could be reached for comment. That's the case with Dover and Bagwell, Thaxton said. According to Thaxton, the two attorneys, who have owned the park since 2001, have avoided making repairs because they are planning to sue the park's previous owner for the cost of the repairs. Dover and Bagwell are claiming they were not aware of the extent of the problems when they purchased Beacon Pointe, Thaxton said.
