The City of Tacoma, Port of Tacoma and Sound Transit jointly requested up to $6 million for the rail-straightening project in a Jan. 7 memo to members of Puget Sound Regional Council's Transportation Policy Board. The board will recommend how $12 million in federal transportation money should be split among Pierce, King, Snohomish and Kitsap counties.
