Summary:The material and epistemic exploration of photography as a medium is central to the artistic practice of Shiraz Shahbazi. Her work frequently references classical genres of studio and travel photography, but has also been displayed as large-format billboard paintings, as still lifes, as semi-abstract shapes and color fields, and as spatial installations. In addition, Shabazi is an active member of INES (Institut Neue Schweiz) as well as the MEDIUM collective (formerly SHAHRZAD), in collaboration with Rashid Tehrani and Golmohamad Rahati. Despite range and variation, Shahbazi is known for her uncompromising rigor with regard to her artistic positions. The following conversation was recorded on the afternoon of 2 February 2019 in Berlin-Friedrichshain.
