Besides making Czechoslovakia the third country to move to the next round - Cameroon and Italy were the first two - today's victory also gave Czechoslovakia a 2-0 record in its group, for 4 points, and set up a showdown with Italy, also 2-0, Tuesday in Rome to decide first place. Czechoslovakia's goal came on a penalty kick by Michal Bilek in the 31st minute. As Jozef Chovanec, a key midfielder for Czechoslovakia, set himself to receive a pass just inside the penalty area, Klaus Lindenberger, the Austrian goalkeeper, raced toward him and dived at the ball, which he missed. Instead, he caught Chovanec at the feet and brought him down. [George Smith] signaled a foul, and Czechoslovakia got a penalty kick. Bilek sent the ball screaming past Lindenberger's right to the corner of the goal. Chovanec was diagnosed as having reinjured a hip muscle. It is doubtful he will be available to face Italy.
