Summary:Fulton County Commissioner Nancy Boxill has proposed limiting morning traffic cop duty at the Johnson Ferry Road-Riverside Drive intersection to 90 days. But her proposal, to be introduced to the full commission Wednesday, may be moot because the state Department of Transportation has completed a study of traffic lights in the Johnson Ferry Road corridor that could eliminate the need for the traffic officer. The Fulton County police officer was assigned to the intersection to control heavy rush-hour traffic flow, but Cobb County has agreed to pay for the officer's time. Fulton and Cobb officials agreed recently to put a Fulton County police officer at the intersection in an effort to move the thousands of rush-hour cars that pour out of Cobb County into Sandy Springs more smoothly, and to buy time so the state DOT could study the timing of the traffic lights in the area. Fulton and Cobb counties are expected to implement the study's recommendations.
