Summary: | He also asked, as did other speakers, for the agreement to be put to a referendum. Attorneys representing the three municipalities met 30 times since late July to hammer out the deal that would create new boundaries between Madison and Fitchburg and calls for the town of Madison to cease to exist in 20 years. Under the intergovernmental agreement, Fitchburg would acquire most town lands south of the Beltline and the city of Madison would get most of the town lands north of the Beltline. Some areas of the town would be annexed by the city of Madison as soon as the state approved the annexation agreement, including the UW-Arboretum, the Genesis Corp. business incubator at 2300 S. Park St. and the Mortenson Investment Group's office park at 3113 W. Beltline. Fitchburg would get the city of Madison's conservancy land in the Nine Springs area south of the Beltline. In 20 years, Fitchburg would get Randy Alexander's $80 million business park off Rimrock Road and the Zimbrick auto dealerships south of the Beltline. |
