Besides breathing life into the Basin Street project, the Senate's action also releases funds for several highway projects in Pennsylvania, providing for roughly 55,000 jobs across the state, according to U.S. Sen. John Heinz, who voted to override [Reagan]. [Don Ritter], who, along with 350 other congressmen voted to override Reagan earlier this week, said the highway measure contains funds not only for the Basin Street underpass, but for Interstate 78 and routes 22, 512 and 222 as well. PROJECT An underpass beneath the Conrail tracks north of Auburn Street - said to be $3 million cheaper than an overpass - will serve four lanes of Basin Street traffic from Hamilton to Auburn Street and three lanes from Auburn to Susquehanna. Mayor Joseph S. Daffona says ribbon-cutting is 2-3 years away.
