Abstract RACQ external affairs general manager Gary Fites produced figures showing the price of crude oil had dropped $10 a barrel since Brisbane unleaded petrol prices last reached such heights, in November 2000. As prices soared above $1 a litre in other states, where motorists do not have the benefit of Queensland's 8.3-a-litre fuel subsidy, the Australian Automobile Association yesterday reminded consumers they were paying more in petrol taxes than they pay to the oil companies. Association executive director Lachlan McIntosh demanded fuel tax reform to relieve consumers from the highest petrol prices in two years. "The Government is making more money out of this than the petrol companies and the oil refineries," Mr McIntosh said.
