Day, campaigning later in St. John's, turned the other cheek to Chretien's taunts and said he wasn't going to bother commenting on some of Chretien's well-documented slipups. Despite Day's public appearance of taking the high road, his Ottawa office issued a press release pointing out Chretien's own misstep Wednesday when he assumed services at a Winnipeg wellness centre are covered by medicare when they aren't. The Liberals' main rival in Quebec also hammered away at Chretien as Bloc Leader Gilles Duceppe, winding his way through the Quebec City area, acknowledged his separatists are neck in neck with the Liberals and "it will be tight race right up until Nov. 27."
