[Jim Moodie] has been a major fundraiser for Campbell's campaign and during the 2001 race he volunteered to be his chauffeur. He contradicted recent comments made by failed Liberal candidate Gail Sparrow, who said Campbell was tipsy at some election events. Moodie agreed there was beer on the campaign bus, but said he never saw Campbell over-indulging. His father Dr. Charles Campbell, a respected physician, and his paternal grandmother both had drinking problems, members of the Campbell familysaid in a series of interviews before the premier was elected. Campbell's father, who was then assistant dean of medicine at UBC, was charged in Vancouver with impaired driving in June 1960, a year before he committed suicide. Jonathan Baker, an NPA councillor while Campbell was mayor of Vancouver, said he never saw Campbell drinking to excess at City Hall.
